The beautiful island of Tahiti.

Most of the beaches on Tahiti are black sand beaches. The black sand comes from the volcanic rock that makes up Tahiti. In the area of the island in which the barrier reef has formed, the beaches are white sand. This is from the coral breaking up and washing ashore.

The black sand takes some getting used to. At first the beach looks dirty. It is definately something out of the ordinary for Americans.
